So things are a bit different this semester, instead of picking a topic of my choice every week I’ll be shooting one of my weaker areas 4 times and my stronger area 4 times.  My weaker area is wildlife.  I never really considered doing many wildlife photos and after picking this topic i figured out why.  theres not much wildlife around here.  So this past week I really didnt have much time at all to devote to finding animals of the wildlife sort, and the closest I got was my mutt Mo in my backyard, not exactly wildlife but close enough right?

  1. The problem of wildlife this time of year is that there really isn’t much to photograph. There are no insects out or the wildlife that are out are not very abundent. If you want to swap and do your stong theme of travel this time around that would be fine with me. This way you can do wildlife more in the spring when animals are out in full force. As far as these photos are concerned, I’m going to tell you the same thing I told Kristen on flash photography, find a way to diffuse your light better. Put a tissue over your flash to help diffuse it better or something like this. Try this or use natural lighting because many of your photos were bleached out from the strong flash. PS – Mo likes to be photographed I think.

  2. I can’t really give you much input on this because of the circumstances. You might try to talk to someone at Raven Run, or any nature preserve around here, and see if they can tell you anything about where to find wildlife. The most I’ve ever seen AT Raven Run is deer, baby rabbits, and an occasional turtle. And that’s when no other parties are there and the weather is warm. I like what you did with the angles on the bird houses. I think it’d be really cool if you did a shoot at eye level with your subject.

  3. I think you did well with what you had to take pictures of this time of year. I agree about the flash and I had the exact same problem! I like the close-ups and the high five picture! I agree with Sammy, that other angles like an eyelevel shot would be interesting to try! You could try putting other things in focus, like in the birdhouse photo, have the birdhouse in focus. But at the same time it is interesting to have the background in focus instead, but you could experiment!

  4. I can’t really think of anything that they haven’t already covered, haha. Your dog has personality! Wildlife is hard right now. I like the one where he’s looking sideways at the camera.

your pictures are not bad at all kristi! some of them are a little bit too dark but other than that i think they are cool. I like how you included the dog in alot of them. My favorite is the one with the dog and the fence.
