Portraiture, 1-26

the hands of our dutiful athletic director and trainer
Since there is very little wildlife in the open to photgraph at this point and time during the year I have decided to switch weaker subjects entirely, moving from wildlife to portraiture. I like portraiture much better and I think its also an area that I need to improve upon so from now on my weak shoots will be on that. These pictures were taken at a basketball game, as most of my subjects are on the team or are required to be at the games, and i think that next time i will try to do more outdoors, if mother nature permits, just to mix things up a bit.

I like these alot, especially the close up of the bracelet. You have good perspective. Really I can’t think of anything to improve on… maybe emphasize on close ups, you seem to be good at that

I really like the one of the Erin watching the game because of the angle and the fact that the subject was out of focus and the background was in focus, it gives an interesting perspective! I also like the close-up of Olivia and the pictures that don’t have faces in them!

Lighting indoors in a gym especially are very difficult, some looked very good and others looked a bit on the bright side. I like your experimentation with the different angles, some of them didn’t work for you like ebony cheesin. Visually looked somewhat hard to look at. I don’t know if you bumped up the iso indoors, but don’t forget about it and if you use flash, diffuse it a bit more.

the lighting looks alittle diffused in some of the pictures, other than that i liked them. i liked the variety of people and angles. My favorite photo was the one of you emphasizing the girls ipod. Kudos that you are using the techniques we learned last year!

i really like the one of ashley from above, the framing of ashley, and aaron contemplating. i also really like the one of shomari. it’s honestly hard to pick with these b/c most of them are really great. the lighting is a bit off, but it’s hard in a gym. i did a shoot on a basketball game, and the lighting was one of the biggest challenges. so props to you for getting this many awesome photos in bad lighting. you have a journalistic approach to your photos, which is really cool. those are my favorite, but i’d like to see what you can do with a formal portrait shoot where you pose your subjects.
